Scams that you should be aware of in social media :

Here are the most dangerous scams circulating on social media platforms in 2025, based on real case studies and user reports.

Crypto Currency Scam :

This is the biggest scam happening in social media. Hackers are reaches out to you at first through the social media platform. they tries to build a relationship with you to steal a sensitive information from you. After that they trick you to make an investment in the crypto Currency which is worthless. They also tell you that it returns a lot of profits for you with no risks , Actually that help them to make a lot of money from their victims.

I’ve personally seen scammers sending fake profit screenshots to convince users that the investment is real.

Legit crypto platforms never message users privately asking for investments.

Romance Scams :

In these type of Scams , hackers create a fake profile and  send you a friend request through social media platform. They build a conversation with you daily till you trust them . After they start a relationship with you , they ask for money telling that they are in deep trouble. If you trust them and sent a money, then they block you and deactivate their account and disappear immediately from the online.

In most romance scams, scammers avoid video calls and create emotional pressure to gain sympathy.

If someone asks for money within days or weeks of chatting, it’s almost always a scam.

Phishing :

Phishing is a technic where the hacker tries to manipulate the user into reveling the sensitive information like user name, passwords and credit card details etc. If you click the  links which is sent through direct messages , emails and posts etc. this could infect your device or you loose your money from your bank account.

Some phishing messages look like bank alerts or parcel deliveries, which makes many users click instantly.

Cybersecurity experts highlight phishing as the number one method attackers use to steal login credentials.

Job Scams on online:

In the last few years job scams has been increased due to work from home with the outbreak of covid. So hackers target the unemployed. They had two motivations one is to get the money from you and another is to get sensitive  information from you. They said they offer you a job if you buy their equipment first. And second thing is they send job notification asking you to fill the application to get your information.

Several users reported receiving job offers without interviews, asking for a ‘training fee’ or equipment purchase upfront.
